Overview
The British Embassy in Dushanbe is the first point of contact for UK visa guidance in Tajikistan. Tajik nationals require a UK visa for all visits; applications are submitted through VFS Global centres in the region — check https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa for the nearest available centre. The embassy also provides consular assistance to British nationals in Tajikistan. Tajikistan is a mountainous Central Asian country bordering Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China; the Pamir Highway — one of the world's highest roads — draws adventure travellers and overlanders. FCDO travel advice should be checked before visiting: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/tajikistan. The embassy covers bilateral relations and development cooperation programmes.
Visa Services
Tajik nationals require a UK visa for all visits, study, work, or family routes. Applications are submitted through regional VFS Global centres. Check https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa for the nearest centre and required documentation.
Consular Services
Embassy provides emergency assistance for British nationals, processes emergency travel documents for lost, stolen, damaged, or expired passports, and offers notarial and documentary services. Consular fees apply for certain services.
Trade & Export Support
UK-Tajikistan trade is modest but growing in the energy and mining sectors where UK expertise is relevant. The embassy can provide introductions to relevant Tajik agencies for British companies interested in the market.
Investment Opportunities
Tajikistan's mining sector (gold, aluminium, silver) and hydroelectric energy potential attract international interest. British companies with relevant expertise can contact the embassy for market guidance.
Business Support
The embassy can provide market context and introductions to relevant Tajik authorities for British businesses. Limited commercial support given the size of the bilateral trade relationship.
Cultural & Educational Programs
British Council programmes support English language teaching in Tajikistan. Chevening and other UK scholarship programmes are available to Tajik students applying to UK universities.
Service Area
The embassy covers all of Tajikistan from Dushanbe. British nationals in the Pamir region or other areas should contact the embassy in advance for guidance on consular support availability.

Special Notes
The Pamir Highway (M41) traverses some of the world's highest terrain, connecting Dushanbe to the Wakhan Corridor at altitudes exceeding 4,600 metres. Tajikistan has more glaciers than anywhere outside the polar regions. The ancient Silk Road city of Penjikent and the ruins of Sogdian civilisation offer remarkable archaeology for adventurous travellers. Always check current FCDO travel advice before travel.
