Peruvian Consulate General in Shanghai

Consulate of Peru in Shanghai, China

Overview

The Consulate General of Peru in Shanghai is Peru's principal commercial and consular outpost in eastern China. Shanghai is China's financial capital and the gateway to the Yangtze River Delta — the country's most productive consumer and manufacturing region with a combined GDP exceeding most national economies. For Peruvian exporters the consulate is a strategic base: copper, zinc and other minerals from Peru feed Shanghai's commodity exchanges, while Peruvian fishmeal supplies the aquaculture industry concentrated along China's eastern seaboard. Quinoa, maca, superfoods and Peruvian coffee have found growing shelf space in Shanghai's premium retail channels. The consulate also serves the Peruvian nationals working in trade, education and the arts across eastern China.

Visa Services

The consulate processes visa applications for Chinese residents in its consular district travelling to Peru. Peru offers visa-free entry to holders of valid Schengen, US, Canadian, Australian or UK visas. Standard applications require a completed form, valid passport, photographs, proof of accommodation, return ticket and financial means.

Consular Services

The consulate provides passport renewal, document legalisation, notarial services, civil registration and emergency protection for Peruvian nationals in eastern China. Powers of attorney, birth and marriage registrations, and judicial cooperation requests are handled during regular consular hours. Emergency consular line: +86 136 3636 4049.

Trade & Export Support

Shanghai's commodity exchanges are among the largest in the world for copper and base metals — both core Peruvian exports. The Yangtze Delta's manufacturing base consumes Peruvian raw materials (minerals, fishmeal, timber) while its consumer market absorbs agricultural exports including quinoa, fresh fruit, coffee and alpaca fibre products. The China-Peru FTA and the Chancay megaport development are expected to deepen trade flows through Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan ports.

Service Area

The consular district covers Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces.
